Student Learning Outcomes

Using standards developed by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS Standards), the Division of Student Affairs has created five distinct student learning outcome domains, in alignment with our values and mission, to guide our programs and services.

Process

The 2022-2023 academic year was a year of re-calibrating and re-setting goals that reflect the values and mission of the Division of Student Affairs. Due to this focus, five distinct Student Learning Outcome (SLO) domains emerged that will guide departments in services and programs.

The five outcome domains are:

  1. Interpersonal Relationships
  2. Intrapersonal Development
  3. Practical Skills Development
  4. Intellectual Engagement & Curiosity
  5. Social Responsibility

The Student Learning Outcome domains development was supported by an established assessment committee that includes representation from every department in the division. The assessment committee meets regularly to help build a strong foundation for the relationship between division and department assessment. Accompanying these meetings was a full-day conference style program, taking place in January of 2023, that created space for collaborative discussions and refinement of the domains before officially launching them within the division. Through synergistic discussion and communication, goals for departments are aligned with divisional goals. Assessment plans are created that will help track and analyze progress throughout the year.
