Alcohol and drug use on campus can range from non-drinkers to responsible drinkers, people seeking assistance with their alcohol and drug use, those in recovery, and everyone in between. We seek innovative ways to provide and increase awareness of resources, and to promote healthy behaviors, informed decision-making, and thoughtful choices which encourage resilience.
Divisional Initiatives
Supporting Student Well-Being and Success
Student Affairs is committed to multiple overarching initiatives which support students' well-being and provide opportunities for success, both in and out of the classroom. Rutgers University–New Brunswick is a diverse environment where students are encouraged to expand their perspective through intercultural engagement and understanding. An inclusive community ensures all students are able to grow and learn.
Student Affairs strives to create an environment of inclusion which respects and affirms the inherent dignity, value, and uniqueness of all individuals, communities, and perspectives. Our practices reflect awareness and understanding of the complexity of identity and the increasing interconnectedness of our world. It is our responsibility to promote a community of compassion by embracing the rich dimensions of diversity, and facilitating opportunities to express and understand both individual and shared truths.
In collaboration with partners across Rutgers–New Brunswick, Student Affairs works to prevent sexual violence by raising awareness of available campus resources, providing education on healthy relationship dynamics, and increasing active bystander intervention.
Doing well in college isn’t just about doing well in class: Even if you’re topping the honor roll, if you’re skipping a trip to the gym or a chance to spend time with friends, then you’re missing out. Rutgers University is committed to the well-being of all of its students. This is why we’ve created the RUwell program, providing students with tips, health hacks, and campus resources to keep their mind, body, and spirit fully charged.
Welcome Week offers a series of required and optional workshops, programs, and events to support new students in their transition to the Rutgers community. These activities build on the information introduced during New Student Orientation and reinforce the five core values of the Knight’s Call to be authentic, inclusive, responsible, resilient, and engaged.
