34th Annual Rites of Passage Ceremony
The annual Rites of Passage Ceremony is a pre-commencement celebration that celebrates the rich cultural traditions and histories that have shaped our diverse community, with particular emphasis on the African diaspora and Latine cultural heritage. The ceremony honors students who, through resolute persistence, have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. The event recognizes their accomplishments, hard work, and dedication while acknowledging the substantial efforts of our student’s families and networks of support. Distinguished speakers, student awards, performances, and the incorporation of African and Latine culture and traditions—specifically the culminating Kente Stole presentation—all add to the vibrancy of this celebratory day. Participation in the Rites of Passage Ceremony is open to all Rutgers University—New Brunswick Undergraduate and Graduate students who have earned their degrees between January 2026 and August 2026. Participation is open to all graduating students.
