Creating innovative programs to transform the student experience.

With students at the heart of all we do, the Division of Student Affairs facilitates innovative learning and developmental experiences, challenging and preparing students to successfully learn, engage, serve, and lead at Rutgers University and in a global society.
We respond to the needs of our students with compassion and care. We use restorative practices to build, maintain, and heal relationships. We create a culture of grace around learning from mistakes.
We foster the development and preservation of a community where all members feel they belong.
Learning for students occurs inside and outside the classroom. As such, we are educators first in our service to students.
We uphold the highest ethical and professional standards in our service to students and the university community.
We are committed to being a leading division of student affairs. We do this through data-driven decision making, a focus on continuous improvement, embracing innovative practices, and telling our story.
Responsibility for diversity means more than just acknowledging and/or tolerating differences. Personal, institutional, and systemic discrimination creates and sustains inequity. It is both our individual and collective responsibility to ensure that we advocate for professional practices, policies and interpersonal behaviors that set the current and future framework for equitable excellence. As such, the Division of Student Affairs works to create an environment of inclusion which respects and affirms the inherent dignity, value, and uniqueness of all individuals, communities, and perspectives. Our practices reflect awareness and understanding of the complexity of identity and the increasing interconnectedness of our world. It is our responsibility to promote and maintain a community of compassion, embracing the rich dimensions of diversity, and facilitating opportunities for understanding and the expression of both individual and shared truths.
Using standards developed by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS Standards), the Division of Student Affairs has created five distinct student learning outcome domains, in alignment with our values and mission, to guide our programs and services.

The Practical Skills Development domain involves acquisition of the skills necessary for collegiate and post-graduation success.
The Intellectual Engagement and Curiosity domain equips students with the tools to explore areas of passion and understand the interconnections and interdependencies of knowledge from a range of disciplines.
The Social Responsibility domain describes the mutual commitment of both students and community towards cultivating inclusive environments.
