End of Year Message from Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
May 9, 2019
Dear Scarlet Knights,
It’s hard to believe that another academic year is drawing to a close. As you navigate your way through final exam season, I encourage you to remain focused as you complete your coursework. Your hard work and perseverance during this trying period will go a long way toward helping you realize your full academic potential and career goals.
For those of you on the verge of graduation, let me be the first of many to congratulate you on all that you have accomplished. I firmly believe that earning a degree from one of our nation’s most prestigious institutions will serve you well as you pursue your passions, and it is my sincere hope that you will forever lean on the lessons you’ve learned while on the banks.
In your time with us, you’ve ignited traditions, created and led organizations, and played an integral role in advancing student life on campus. I thank you for all the contributions you’ve made to our university, and I hope that you remain connected with the Rutgers community you’ve helped build.
For those who will be continuing their Rutgers journey, I wish you a safe, restful, and productive summer. Whether you will be taking classes, gaining professional experience through an internship, or simply using the coming months to unwind, I hope that you’ll also set aside some time to reflect on this past year. Please celebrate your successes while also thinking of ways to improve. Learning is a lifelong process, and self-reflection is an important part of our personal development.
As you look toward next year, I also encourage you to think of ways that you can live and answer the Knight’s Call. We all have a role to play in shaping our university’s character, and by embracing the virtues of authenticity, inclusivity, responsibility, resilience, and engagement, we can help shape the Rutgers community for the better.
While this year was my first as your Vice Chancellor, it is my fifth as a member of the Rutgers family. In that time, I’ve been fortunate to have a front-row seat to our growth and evolution as a larger campus community. I am proud of what we have built together, and I am continually in awe of and inspired by the impact each of you makes on this university. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to help you make the most of your Rutgers experience, and I wish you all the best going forward.
