Resources and Programs Available
January 25, 2019
Dear Scarlet Knights,
I hope you had a restful and re-energizing winter break and are ready to take full advantage of the opportunities that lay ahead in this new year. I’d like to formally welcome you back on campus! The energy you bring electrifies our community, and I’m thrilled to see our campus coming to life with you back on the banks.
As it is every year, our resolution within Student Affairs is to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring your academic success while enriching your co-curricular experience. While not exhaustive, below you’ll find updates, reminders, and several resources and programs designed to help you settle back into campus life:
Student Centers and Activities
Last semester, the student centers completed the much-needed facelift to the community gathering spaces, lounges, and meeting rooms to create more inviting spaces that are conducive to student engagement. Additional vending options were also added throughout all of the student centers. As we continue to engage with the community and provide inclusive spaces, look out for community building programs and simple ways to connect with fellow students. For more information about student centers follow them on Facebook @RUStudentCenters.
Residence Life
Living on-campus for the 2019–2020 academic year? Students must apply for a housing selection number by 11:59 PM on January 29, 2019 in order to participate in the housing selection process. Seniority or reverse seniority points as well as selection numbers are used to prioritize students’ selection of on-campus housing options. For more information, visit ruoncampus.rutgers.edu/selection.
Cultural Center Collaborative (C4)
Join us for the third annual #RUDreamWeek to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and 100th year graduation of our esteemed alum, Paul Robeson during the Robeson Centennial. Listen to inspiring dialogues, participate in an oratorical competition, or attend a dance theater-empower workshop from January 28 to February 1. Visit culturalcollaborative.rutgers.edu/home/dreamweek/ for more details.
Recreation
Need support in reaching your New Year’s health goals? Recreation is offering free drop-in fitness and wellness classes for students beginning on January 22, while intramural registration begins on January 23. To view classes, facility hours, events, trips, and programs, visit our website at recreation.rutgers.edu or download the RURec2Go app on the App Store or Google Play.
Health and Wellness
Participate in our Health and Wellness Campaign, and learn how photography can create a healthier campus environment for everyone by participating in Photovoice. Photovoice is a participatory action research project. Participants use photos to respond to a series of questions related to wellness. After the pictures are submitted, participants meet with a Photovoice team member to talk about their photos and create captions. There will be a Culminating Photovoice Exhibit on Wednesday, April 10th at 8:00 p.m. in the Busch Student Center where the participants and community will gather and learn what wellness looks like at Rutgers University. E-mail RUPhotovoice@rutgers.edu to participate.
Finally, in line with health and wellness, I’d like to remind you to practice good pedestrian and driver safety skills as you navigate in and outside the campus. Some tips can be found in my previous email found here.
Once again, welcome back! Our team of professionals are looking forward to engaging you in creative and imaginative programs and services that are aimed at facilitating interaction and promoting your personal and professional development.
