Staying Engaged with Us and Each Other
April 21, 2020
A Message to Students from Salvador B. Mena, PhD, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Rutgers University—New Brunswick:
Dear Scarlet Knights:
Regardless of the distance, the Division of Student Affairs is here for you, and I would like to let you know how we are still serving you and how you can continue to be involved with us and each other.
Over the past few weeks, our departments have been adapting to provide programs and services remotely for you, from live-streamed fitness classes and online consultations with Student Legal Services, to counseling appointments with CAPS and the Dean of Students Office for emergency assistance. Our buildings may be physically closed, but we are a click or phone call away from serving you.
Additionally, as classes have transitioned to remote instruction, events have also been moving to online formats. By visiting getinvolved.rutgers.edu, you can connect to our online engagement platform, where we have compiled a list of online programs and events sponsored by student organizations and departments at Rutgers–New Brunswick. Opportunities for engagement are continually being added, so check the website often, but I’m confident you will find something of interest to you. By clicking here, you will find examples of how students are engaging with us and each other remotely.
By taking advantage of these virtual opportunities, we can still have a thriving #RCommunity even if we are not physically together on campus. I encourage you to visit the division’s social media directory and follow the accounts which interest you. We are striving to stay connected with you by leveraging social media, such as hosting fun virtual events, celebrating university milestones, providing virtual environments for supportive conversations, or sharing information and updates about our services. Please stay connected and engaged with us as best you can as we realize not everyone is able to do so in the same way for a host of different reasons.
Remember, Rutgers is not just a physical location, but a spirit which lives within us – on campus and beyond. We are #RutgersStrong, and together we will persevere.
Sincerely,
Salvador B. Mena, Ph.D.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
