Douglass campus is known for its grassy lawns and towering trees, Douglass Residential College, and Rutgers’ Department of Animal Science, among much else. Rutgers students sometimes experience mental health issues that require a higher level of care than regular therapy appointments. While these students would be forced to choose between hospitalization or intensive outpatient care to meet their needs at most universities, Student Health's CAPS Next Step program steps in to provide a higher level of care that allows them to keep taking classes.
At Rutgers—New Brunswick, like other universities across the nation, many students suffer from food insecurity. To begin addressing this issue, the Dean of Students—Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, offers a Student Food Pantry that students can use when necessary, as well as the No Hungry Knights Scholarship, which offers free meal swipes for on-campus dining halls.
