We understand that how we work and provide services directly impacts the student experience. We therefore strive to work together to create connections and relationships that help us respond to the needs of our students.

Although New Brunswick, in central New Jersey, is surrounded by opportunities for excursions into the natural world, the longest trip that many students at Rutgers—New Brunswick regularly take is from one campus to another.

GO Outdoors, a Recreation program designed to get students into the outdoors, aims to change that with accessible trips and courses available to students and other Rutgers community members within and outside of the Division of Student Affairs.

At just nine years old, Naomi Kutin shattered a world record for her weight class in 2011. Today, in her fourth year at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, the young athlete maintains her powerlifting skills, but now she’s weighing options in the field of social work as well. While continuing to train one to two hours a day, five days a week, and competing as a member of the Rutgers Powerlifting Club, Kutin is completing her undergraduate degree and studying for her master's degree at Rutgers’ School of Social Work. At Rutgers—New Brunswick, the Office of Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance (VPVA), with campus partners, has taken a lead on providing support and programming during Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month (DVAM) through their Turn the Campus Purple campaign. One crucial resource that will remain available throughout the rest of the month—and the entire calendar year—is VPVA’s crisis intervention hotline, which aims to help survivors cope with the effects of interpersonal violence.  

As an undergraduate student, Katie Miller SAS’17, was involved in a variety of on-campus organizations, but it was her time with RUPA that really allowed her to explore her interest in the concert production world. Her hands on experiences with RUPA ultimately connected her with her current employer Groove Boston Mission 6, the production company that helps make Beats on the Banks happen every year. Katie is back at Rutgers to help set up Beats on the Banks and reflect on her experiences with RUPA.
